Doug & Sandy in National Geographic

While we're still waiting for our first whale sighting of the year... Maui
had their first sighting a week or so ago...

Doug and I were honored in National Geographic Traveler being
chosen to represent Kauai and tradition of old style slack key.
If you missed it in the newsletter last week, here's the link to the article:

Feel free to share with friends and family. Doug and I feel
honored to represent Kauai and the tradition of old style slack key.

A hui hou,
Sandy and Doug

PS. Be sure to catch the Orionid meteor showers today through Friday.
Early morning is best. Possibly may even get to see a fireball! Cool!
We saw quite a few this morning already. (Just Google Orionid meteor 2008
for all the details.)

Deep Breath

Glorious morning today. Hope you are seeing the same
in your neck of the woods. Baxter is sitting in the yard bathed in the
golden morning sun. Whales are spouting. Our shama's thrush and the
finch family are twittering joyfully.

This past week was a little scary here on
Kauai. Southern (Kona) winds brought large amounts of vog
(volcanic smog) and actual smog from Oahu. One evening the
mountains of Hanalei were almost invisible. Can't recall it ever
being that heavy. Of course we did hear they actually had to
evacuate people from the Volcano (town) area on Big Island due
to major eruptions and resulting vog.

Last couple evenings we've had tradewinds return and the
associated showers. Yeeehah! And now we can breathe
deeply again.

Happy Saturday!

April Sprinkles

Good news! April is giving us a few sprinkles... and we
are happy dancing about it. We need some rain as it's
been quite dry here for the past two months.

Mama hen presented us with 8 new baby chicks this
past week. Cute as can be. Little, fluffy cheepsters.

Last weekend the fishing boat was in the bay and delivered
many dead fish into the bay waters. As always, whenever you
see fishing boats in the bay, check with the lifeguard or you
may be swimming with sharks!! Although little PeterAloha
told us that he used to be a shark. He and his shark friends
were very friendly.

Whales spouting abound. We haven't caught too many
breaching in the last few weeks. Heard there were more
visiting on the south shore the last two weeks??

Have a bountiful, springtime week!
A hui hou,
Sandy & Doug
